Our Past

There had to be a first, and it all started with a rented pickup truck from St. Henry Hardware, a shovel, and a brand-new wheelbarrow. Our namesake, Harold A. Dorsten, decided to strike out on his own as a commercial construction contractor in Ohio. He took a leap of faith when he put in a bid for a four-room school addition. Much to Harold’s surprise, and perhaps some consternation, he was awarded the job.

Showing up on the job site and meeting the school superintendent was a bit intimidating. One look and the school superintendent knew H.A. Dorsten, Inc. was not the most experienced contractor with which he was going to be dealing. Harold calmly and assertively said, “You will be proud of this project when we are finished. You know, with every successful company, there had to be a first.”

In 1967, Harold’s son, and second-generation, Ron Dorsten, joined his father in the company. Advancing more into the commercial, industrial, and institutional markets, Harold operated as CEO for 47 years with his son beside him filling the role of President.

H.A. Dorsten continued to thrive in the commercial construction industry while creating an inspiring and meaningful culture of giving back to those we serve. Harold was established as a pillar of the community in 1997 when he received the Citizen of the Year Award presented by the Minster Civic Association to those who have made outstanding contributions to their community.

Our Present

Ingrained by the deep-rooted values of his father, Ron was named CEO in 1997. Under Ron’s leadership, H.A. Dorsten continued to experience consistent company growth and began offering cost-effective design-build services to our customers.

In 1991, Harold’s grandson, Ron’s son, and third-generation Sean Dorsten followed the path of construction and joined H.A. Dorsten. In 2007, Ron and the H.A. Dorsten family were again bestowed the humbling recognition of Outstanding Citizen of the Year as we continue to build on the same exemplary culture of excellence set by Harold. Sean worked alongside his father, filling the role of President until Ron’s passing in 2024.

Sean continues to serve as President as we continue to grow and increase our capacity to construct a diverse array of projects
