H.A. Dorsten, Inc. was awarded its second project in three years with First Federal of Van Wert in 2024. This new branch, located on the north side of town, reflects the continued growth and success of this outstanding client. As with the first project in 2021, H.A. Dorsten served as the General Contractor.
The project consisted of a new single-story, 4,080 SF commercial building with a detached 1,512 SF drive-thru canopy. The building was framed with structural steel, load-bearing metal studs, and prefabricated wood trusses. The project kicked off quickly at the beginning of September 2024, with the goal of enclosing the building and installing the brick veneer prior to the arrival of winter weather. Site work commenced, and with favorable conditions, the site began taking shape and was ready for foundations ahead of schedule. Once foundations were complete, the structural steel and load-bearing walls began to go vertical. Ideal construction weather continued, and the building steadily took shape.
Once enclosed, the exterior sheathing was applied, a vapor barrier was installed at the walls, and the roof was covered with synthetic felt and ice-and-water guard to withstand the approaching winter weather. Construction progressed as scheduled, and as winter ended, the exterior was nearing completion with the brick veneer, standing seam roof, and ACM cladding in place. Interior finishes for the building were spectacular, and the H.A. Dorsten crews and subcontractors maintained a strong focus on detail.
As the project reached completion, it was an ideal time to reflect on the exceptional teamwork required to bring this impressive design to life. The successful execution by H.A.
